Five years ago, I had the good fortune of accompanying my wife on adventure to Switzerland. We traversed the iconic Swiss Alps with Mountain Kora. Our experience with the Bernese Oberland Traverse was filled with breathtaking scenery, welcoming hospitality, and unforgettable camaraderie.
From the moment we arrived, the hospitality of the independent inn operators, like Judi at The Hotel Bellevue, set the tone for our adventure. Our guide, Jürg, was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also charismatic and personable. His strength and expertise made us feel safe and well-cared for throughout the trip. From our introduction to the trip with Jürg on the green veranda of Hotel Bellevue, I knew we were in good hands. Later that evening, savoring a refreshing white wine while dining on the deck of Judith's charming inn on the outskirts of Wengen, I had the sense that ten days would not be enough.
Each day brought new challenges and rewards. Hiking through the stunning alpine scenery, we bonded with our fellow travelers, creating friendships that will last a lifetime. I still remember the taste of a crisp old-world pilsner at Blüemlisalp Hut after meandering up to the top of the Hohtürli Pass. The view was mesmerizing, and the atmosphere was simply magical.
Our journey began in the beautiful town of Wengen, where we settled into our hotel and had an orientation and welcome dinner, setting the stage for the adventure ahead. The first full day of hiking took us through the picturesque Lauterbrunnen Valley, where the stunning Trümmelbach Falls left us in awe. Our hike ended in Mürren, a place where the views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau were breathtaking.
From Mürren, we ascended past the Rotstockhütte, stopping for fresh pie and coffee, before making our way over the Sefinenfurgge. The views were awe-inspiring, and we ended the day in the idyllic farming hamlet of Griesalp. We were pampered at the Griesalp Hotel Berghaus as we soaked in wood-fired hot tubs overlooking the valley below. The ascent to the Hohtürli pass was challenging but incredibly rewarding, and spending the night at the Blüemlisalp Hut, surrounded by the glacial beauty of the Blüemlisalp massif, was an experience like no other.
Descending to the picturesque Öeschinensee, often hailed as the most beautiful lake in Switzerland, was a highlight of our trip. We then hiked up the picturesque Gasterntal valley to Selden, where we stayed in a family-run hotel with stunning views. The hike from Selden to Adelboden via the Bundergrat offered some of the most spectacular views of the journey, and the day ended with a comfortable stay at the Hotel Bären.
Crossing the Hahnenmoospass and descending along the Simme River to Lenk, we enjoyed a cozy chalet-style lodge on the edge of town. Our final hike took us over the Trüttlisbergpass to the village of Lauenen and concluded in the resort town of Gstaad. The warm dinner after the trenching rains on the hike made the perfect end to an unforgettable adventure.
Our trip with Mountain Kora exceeded all my expectations. The meticulous planning, the expert guidance from Jürg, and the warm hospitality of our hosts made this a journey to cherish forever.
Thank you to Mountain Kora for making this one for the books. Wishing everyone a fantastic rest of the summer!
Warm regards,
Nez
